Perry Como’s Christmas Cracker: Script

£6.00

By creating a Pantomime Nativity with an Easy Listening superstar as its lead, theatrical impresarios Bob and Bill believe they have hit the big time. The friends’ ill conceived enterprise starts veering off track when Perry doesn’t show and Mary has to be called from the audience to play her namesake.

Into the show’s whirl of puns, cliché, corruption and confusion Mary starts inserting her vague recollections of a different Christmas story which might resolve everyone’s problems.

This is Stan’s Cafe’s first play, bold take on the relationship between form and content and comic critique of cultural exploitation. Strangely touching and subtly sophisticated, it is an entertaining, provocative show, a sign of much that was to come.
