As is characteristic of our collaborations with Washwood Heath Academy this year’s projects were tightly focused on a few subjects, trying to help in ways that can be replicated with teachers when we’re not there.
Matholymics.
This collaboration with the Maths department entered its second year, it’s a Sports Day for Maths and has its own webpage here. Click here to learn about Matholympics.
Ratio and Proportion.
Kerry helped GCSE students get a grasp of these key concepts
.
Modern Foreign Languages.
Lucy helped the Modern Foreign Languages department by teaching speaking and listening games that can build confidence for oral exams and be used to help learn vocabulary.
English for Speakers of Other Languages.
Natalie continued her fantastic relationship with the ESOL using drama techniques to help with their conversational English.
Computer Studies.
Kerry brought her drama and teaching skills to bare on her Computer Science knowledge and devised an elegant participatory game to explain the inner workings of a computer (images below)
Science.
We ran an ambitious project help student remember crucial equations through memorable videos. A small group of students devised the screenplay and then shot four videos over two days. There are sixten more equations to deal with it is unclear if we will continue to pursue this approach.
Student Leadership.
Lucy worked using drama skills with an especially selected group of students to build their confidence in taking onleadership roles in and out of school.
