Olympian Steps – Opportunities

We are looking for local young people to help us with our Olympian Steps project in which we are installing painted footsteps in Handsworth and Aston Parks to recreate iconic Olympic events. Visitors to the parks will then be able to place their feet in the steps of athletes such as Usain Bolt, Bob Beamon and Sally Gunnell and gain an insight into the achievements of these great sports people.

The first opportunity is:

Installers (Short term paid contract)

We are looking for two local, young people to work with us in installing their Olympian Steps project in Aston and Handsworth parks in Birmingham. The installation process will take 2 -3 days between 20 – 24 March, but candidates will need some flexibility as installation will be dependent on weather conditions.

Candidates need a good level of physical fitness, an interest in the arts, to be a good team worker and to have an eye for detail.

The second opportunity is:

Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help us with the launch of Olympian Steps on its opening weekend (14 & 15 April) from 10am – 5pm daily. The events will be taking place in Aston and Handsworth parks and include working with members of the Stan’s Cafe team in enabling local residents to interact with these new arts installations.

Volunteers need to have an interest in the arts, particularly participatory arts, photography or theatre. Have a friendly and enthusiastic attitude and enjoy working as part of a team. Full training will be received in advance of the weekend.

It would be great if we could work with people who are residents of these areas of Birmingham.
