Michael Wolters came in today and played us a computer version of the music he has composed for our 12 minute opera collaboration The Voyage. It sounded fantastic. Worryingly, one brilliant element was his quiet recitation of the libretto over the music, so we would know where the singing will be placed. I’m concerned now that I will prefer this to the sung version.
We spoke a bit about staging and acting. We discussed options for the final aria. We talked about rehearsals. We also looked at technical drawings of the seating bank being fabricated to transport our audiences (which – by looking at the drawings – we realise need to be diversified).
