Golden Steps, London

Golden Steps was a commission for UP Projects as part of their Terminus Treats for Twenty Twelve programme working in partnership with London Borough of Camden, St Pancras International and Network Rail.It celebrates twelve gold medal winning Olympic performances acrossa range of disciplines, eras and nationalities. Painted on Eversholt Street, Phoenix Road and Brill Place the series are intended to engage local residents and visitors making the journey between Euston Station andSt. Pancras Station from where the Javalin train travels to the Olympic Park.

In sequence the events are (WARNING, this is a spolier don’t read what follows if you plan to visit the installation):

Usain Bolt running 100m in Beijing 2008 for Jamaica.
Paola Fantato shooting in the archery in Sydney Paralympics 2000 for Italy.
Sally Gunnell running the 400m hurdles in Barcelona 1996 for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Jonathan Edwards jumping the triple jump in Sydney 2000 for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Arnold Boldt jumping the high jump in Arnhem Paralympics 1980 for Canada.
Ray Ewry jumping the standing long jump in London 1908 for the United States of America.
Olga Korbut tumbling in gymnastics in Munich 1972 for the Soviet Union.
Julius Kariuki running in the 300m Steeplechase in Seoul 1988 for Kenya.
Na Cui judo fighting in Beijing 2008 for China. (to be installed)
Joaquin Capilla Perez diving from the 10m platform in Melbourne 1956 for Mexico.
Naim Süleymanoglu lifting weights in Atlanta 1996 for Turkey.
Kamila Skolimowska throwing the hammer in Sydney 2000 for Poland.
An anonymous medal ceremony London 2012. (to be installed)
