Womad Earthstation Festival
Adelaide, Australia
21 – 23 October 2011

Adelaide 2011

A second visit to Adelaide for the show, the first one being in 2007 for Womadelaide. This was another Womad event, called Earthstation, a festival exploring sustainability and featuring music, performance, visual art and debate, all set in the beautiful surroundings of Belair National Park.

Housed in a marquee we had plenty of visitors over the three days, including many who had seen the show on our previous visit and came back to say how much they had enjoyed it. A statistical highlight came as Jake was putting out the 350,000 people who welcomed the Beatles to Adelaide in 1965 and was tapped on the shoulder by someone saying, “I’ll tell you someone who’s not in that pile – my Mum. I was born 2 days before so she couldn’t go. She’s never let me forget it!” A celebrity highlight came with a visit to the show by Cate Blanchett although she was so cunningly disguised that none of the team recognised her.

It was great to return to Australia and also provided members of the team to catch up with old friends on the other side of the world.
