Interrogate Festival
Dartington, U.K.
23 – 24 September 2011
This was a short visit to a brand new event at Dartington Hall – the Interrogate Festival, billed as the UK’s first festival of social justice. It took as its focus social and income inequality and included performance, debate, stand-up, music, workshops and informal meets. We were stationed in the gallery, which being relatively small made us really focus down on pertinent statistics. Of All The People and the festival proved to be a very good match as many of the shows recurring themes fitted perfectly with the aims and themes of the festival. We had a steady stream of visitors and some great chats with people for whom the rice provoked many emotions and ideas.
It was, as always lovely to visit the beautiful Dartington Estate and staying at the hall gave us the chance to sample some of the other events. We missed folk duo Spiers and Boden and comedian Mark Steel but we did get to see some excellent spoken word from Phrased and Confused and a great cabaret night featuring among others, Innua Ellams, Natural Causes, Chris T-T and Stuart Silver.
There are plenty of images on the Interrogate Flickr Site to give you a flavour of the weekend and apparently the next festival is being planned for October 2012.
