Edinburgh College of Art
22 – 25 August, 2005
Our third consecutive appearance in Edinburgh’s British Council Showcase was also our third collaboration with the Edinburgh College of Art. Originally we had agreed with the Suzanne Dunn the exhibitions manager to take over the main Sculpture Hall, but she got a late offer of a major piece by Jannis Kounellis and we reverted to a side room.
The result was satisfying, Of All The People In All The World sat well alongside Kounellis’ installation. Whilst our white studio space was initially a little too bare to be inspiring, appropriating one of the college’s tall old display cabinets gave the show some height and focus. The studio’s huge windows framed spectacular views of the castle.
Visitor numbers were relatively low, but we had anticipated this. Publicity hadn’t been vast and our principle focus was attracting delegates of the British Council Showcase, who arrived in large numbers as a buzz started to go round about the show. This performance led to a host bookings.
It was satisfying and challenging to return to the tight focus of the U.K. sized show after the vast whole world version in Stuttgart.
Highlight of the show was hearing a cluster of US promoters haggling over who would have the US Premiere.
